Job Objective:
Act as subject matter expert to assist Management of the company to ensure that the company effectively produces environmentally sustainable aluminium (green aluminium) by utilising relevant technology and excellent knowledge of regulatory and market requirements with associated general understanding of sustainability best practices in the Aluminium industry and its associated supply chain.
Job Description:
- Development and control of the implementation of the corporate level policies, regulations, standards and documents in the field of ecology and climate
- Monitoring of Environmental and climate legislation changes. Risk assessments. Collaboration with authorities regarding projects of new legal requirements.
- Develop, implement and review the company’s Sustainability and Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies
- Lead the entire environmental climate direction
- Development of annual and strategic goals and consolidation of annual budget in the field of ecology and climate, and performance monitoring.
- Develop: Net Zero Strategy and Environmental & Biodiversity strategy
- Setting up a KPI system for the ecology and climate track for the company and monitoring KPI performance - Leading the processes of obtaining necessary permissions and licenses.
- Develop metrics and benchmarks for ongoing measurement of progress in corporate sustainability. In relation, collate and prepare the sustainability report for the organization, aligned with applicable reporting standards e.g. GRIs, needed for public disclosure.
- Conduct study and analysis of the Sustainability/ESG opportunities relevant to the industry and the Organisation;
- Monitor and work on ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) rating by ascertaining and measuring sustainability efforts and monitor sustainability indicators, such as energy usage, natural resource usage, waste generation, recycling, etc
- Actively engage with relevant stakeholders to identify and address sustainability issue
- Engage with operating units across the organization to embed sustainability in operations
- Establish a strong sustainability network and stay abreast with new development, policies, best practices and technology.
- Collect and analyse company-wide data on sustainability initiatives and programs and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to provide senior management with relevant analysis and recommendations on sustainability programs and reporting; and
- Preparation of information materials on the Company’s Environmental and Climate activities for the communication team (public reporting, presentations, information for PR-messages, etc.).
- Preparation of consolidated environmental and climate reports and analytical materials for the Management and the Board of Directors of Qatalum
- Communicate with sustainability practitioners, professionals, consultants, government agencies and regulatory bodies to stay updated with new developments in sustainability-related policies, best practices and technology.
- Design and Implement initiatives of biodiversity, renewable energy and green technology to achieve Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction
- Determine the best applicable to the company and take lead and guide to achieve sustainability certification from bodies like World Resources Institute (WRI), World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), World Economic Forum (WEF), Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), International Aluminium Institute (IAI), London Metal Exchange
- Undertake and initiate in alignment with stakeholders projects and program on Corporate Social Responsibility.
- Design and conduct science-based studies and programs towards Sustainability across the three-pillars i.e. environment, social, and governance.
- Implementation, maintenance and continual improvements of Environmental management system processes in accordance with ISO 14001 or any other

Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters Degree within environment science, engineering, environmental management or related subject
Minimum Experience:
- 8-10 years of experience in environment and sustainability within metal or other relevant industry.
- Excellent track record of developing and implementing effective sustainability strategies for a producer/smelter.
- Knowledge and experience on Corporate Social Responsibility strategy and programs
- Substantive portfolio related to science-based project study and development in field of environment and sustainability
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Cross Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
Job Specific Skills:
- Project Management,
- Strong knowledge of ASI Performance standard and Chain of custody standard and other relevant international environment and Sustainablity standards e.g. ISO 14001:2015
- Knowledge policy management, Climate Change Risk, Corporate Social Responsibility, Biodiversity, Transparency & Disclosure, Responsible Sourcing, Emissions, effluents and waste, water stewardship, Human Rights and Labour Rights practices
