Job Objectives:
The shift leader is responsible for managing the shift operations and processes, handling of work orders, notifications, and allocation of spares additional resources as required. To coordinate the operational and technical affairs within the shift. To undertake the preventive maintenance and corrective activities within the area under control.
Job Description:
- Responsible for leading the shift team, continuous dialogue with operational shift teams and assist the supervisor in shift reporting.
- Responsible to support the department in all HSE activities and adherence to the HSE plan; policy and procedures.
- Ensure operational and process requirements are met by adhering to departmental KPIs and PIs.
- Carry out inspections and routine calibrations of instrumentation in order to prevent malfunction and maximize performance and efficiency of equipment.
- Lead team in carrying out first line maintenance and related tasks to ensure equipment performance to standard.
- Perform troubleshooting on equipment’s/process in order to restore any deviation to working order the soonest possible.
- Handle notifications and work orders in SAP PM, request spares through maintenance supervisor or planner.
- Assist the supervisor in training of the technicians in the respective sections.
- Follow-up of daily maintenance activities and participate in long term maintenance planning.
- Perform first line maintenance on equipment in order to minimize costly downtime or escalate as needed.
- Identify and report any maintenance and modifications to ensure that any malfunctioning of equipment is rectified, repaired or replaced on immediate basis.
- Ensure accurate data gathering and reporting.
- Coordinate with customers as and when they call for utilities operational support.
- Support the Qatalum Improvement Programm by using QPS tools.

Minimum Qualification Required
- Trade qualification (electrical/instrument) preferably with Engineering qualification
Required experience
- Approximately 5 years maintenance experience in heavy industry, preferably in aluminium industry
- Experience in plant Utilities operations is essential
Job Specific Skills
- Thorough knowledge of plant utilities and maintenance philosophy.
- Good working knowledge of plant air compressor operation.
- Knowledge of the policies and procedures of area operations and processes.
- Computer literate
- SAP PM Knowledge is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of various statutory regulations relating to the industry s well as company policies, in particular relating to HSE and contractor management
- Must be multidiscipline with knowledge in all trades in all trades such as Instrument, Electrical and Mechanical
