Qatalum, Qatar Aluminium Ltd., was officially launched 12 April 2010 by the Emir, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, in Messaied, approximately 40 km south of the capital, Doha. Qatalum is no less than the largest aluminium plant ever launched, with a capacity in the first phase of 585,000 tons of primary aluminium, all to be shipped as value added aluminium casthouse products.
Qatalum is at the forefront of the massive switches in momentum in the industry to new, emerging markets, as well as Qatar’s emergence as a regional powerhouse.
